Comparisons

The following examples can be used to compare many variants of the test results. By default the top two results are compared side by side and in nearly all cases these will be the 8x10 transparency on the left and the IQ180 on the right. Other combinations can be chosen by clicking on the blue links underneath the picture. Click on links on the 'before side' to change the left hand image and 'after side' to change the right hand image. The current version is shown in bold below the image. You can move the green slider to sweep between the two results and click on 'only show xxx' to quickly flip between the two,

Above each test is a %ge in brackets which shows whether the image is 100% or 50% reduced. This does not mean 100% for all cameras, just 100% for the 8x10 at 4000dpi. Hence the 50% figure is showing the 8x10 at 2000dpi (which is a normal scanning resolution) and is showing the 4x5 at 4000dpi. For the 100% tests, the IQ180 has been enlarged by 500%. For the 50% files the IQ180 are enlarged by 250% (we did say we were pixel peeping!)

We've balanced these images using basic colour and contrast adjustments. No graduated filters were used.

This shot is right on the focal plane for all of the cameras and hence is a reasonable detal comparison

Topping Hut Bridge (50%)

Although the IQ180 shot was made on a Phase One 645 camera and hence hyperfocal focussed, the results provide a reasonable comparison of a real world situation where the camera would not be used on a technical camera. The P45 was used on the Linhof Techno and hence has the advantage of a well placed focal plane. In reality, this part of the frame still had near pixel level detail showing that the depth of field at f/11 was sufficient for the sensor without diffraction ruining things.
